Breakout is an abstract strategy board game invented by Dan Troyka in 2000. The board has 8x8 tiles and was originally set up with 16 white pieces in the first two rows and 16 black pieces in the last two rows. together. A piece can move into a square containing the opponents piece if and only if the square goes diagonally forward one step. The opponents piece is discarded and the players piece is replaced. The first player to reach the opponents home row — the one furthest away from the player — is the winner. If all of a players pieces are captured, that player loses. A draw is impossible because pieces can only move forward (or be captured), and the piece closest to the opponents house line always has at least one forward diagonal move available.
